Fix-It Challenges
The fastest way to learn this job is fixing broken things. Each challenge: break it (or find it broken), diagnose it with the tools, fix it, and be able to say what was wrong. Snapshot before every challenge.
Challenge 1 — The bad plugin
Install a random plugin you have never heard of, activate it, and if the site misbehaves: find it in Stream (what changed, in order), deactivate it, and confirm the site recovers. If it behaves fine, deactivate and delete it anyway — and notice how install / activate / deactivate / delete are four different things.
Challenge 2 — The mystery change
Ask your teacher to secretly change one setting somewhere in this site. Your job: use Stream’s timeline to find exactly what changed and when, and change it back. This is real diagnostic work.
Challenge 3 — The restore
Make a mess on purpose: delete a page, change the theme, scramble the menu. Then restore your UpdraftPlus backup and put it all back. Afterwards, answer honestly: what did the backup restore — files, database, or both?
Challenge 4 — The update that went wrong (staged)
Your teacher will stage a broken update or a broken snippet for you. Use Query Monitor and Site Health to name the culprit — plugin, theme, or code — before you fix anything. Diagnosis first, clicking second.
